The AMG 3.2 engine is all all-aluminum, 18-valve, 90-degree V-6. Its super charger has an unusually high boost pressure of 14.5 psi through an air/water intercooler with a separate water circuit activated by an electric pump. Both the supercharger and intercooler are located inside the vee formed by the two banks of cylinders. The forged crankshaft and pistons, the connecting rods, the hollow camshafts (one per bank), the valve springs, the oil pump, the balance shaft and, of course, the engine-management system are all new to ensure reliability and higher performance. The quarter-mile mark can be reached in 13.6 sec. at a speed of 105.4 mph. On the test track, the car needed only 118 and 211 ft. to come to a halt from respective 60- and 80-mph ABS panic stops.
